Chris Smith, Executive Director of BASB, and Charlie Cremens, Director of BPS Partnerships at Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology, joined Chris Lovett on BNN News this week to discuss how summer learning exposes youth to the knowledge, skills, and experiences necessary for future success.
Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology, a private college located in the South End, is just one of 79 summer learning sites across the city opening its doors to Boston’s young people. Over the past three years, the program has quadrupled the number of youth they host on the campus. By partnering with Boston After School & Beyond, Boston Private Industry Council, and Freedom House, BFIT uses its summer data to strengthen the pipeline to college and the workforce.
“The data findings validate what we saw day-to-day in our program,” said Charlie Cremens, Director of BPS Partnerships at Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology. “Students improved their relationships with one another and with adults over the summer, and have carried these gains into the school year.”
