Play Rugby USA has delivered a transformational sports education experience to urban youth for nearly 10 years. Founded in New York in 2003, this sports based youth development program has delivered their programming to over 200 schools and community based organizations in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Philadelphia, and Washington D.C., and now they are working their way to Boston. With so few opportunities for Boston’s more than 75,000 youth to play rugby, Play Rugby USA should be a nice addition to the City’s field of sport. <!–break–>
Play Rugby utilizes an asset based approach to youth development by using rugby to strengthen character, conditioning, community and academic commitment through four main inter-related program solutions:
- After School Programs: they form sustainable partnerships with schools and CBO’s to integrate direct-service, curriculum-based youth development instruction into their sites;
- Enculturation and Competition: they offer young people an opportunity to compete and travel as part of a team through organizing community tournaments, events and leagues;
- Competency Training: they offer workshops and ongoing co-coaching programs for teachers, educators and parents to enable them to effectively integrate PRUSA curriculum into their programs;
- Sports Leadership Academies: they provide a comprehensive after school solution by running the host-organization’s entire after school program, which includes: multi-team sports (including multiple rugby curriculum); fitness and nutrition; arts; and academic offerings.
Welcome to Boston, Play Rugby USA!
