Boston Public Schools (BPS) is seeking to expand and improve after-school programming at
BPS schools in support of Mayor Wu and Superintendent Skipper’s citywide commitment: to
provide quality, accessible, and enriching before- and after-school programming at every BPS
school. BPS is looking for input from organizations that provide or have capacity to provide
school-based after-school programming for students.
BPS is interested in learning about both organizations that can operate daily after-school
programs and those that can provide (non-daily) enrichment activities as a supplement to daily
programs. BPS is also particularly interested in learning about organizations that can provide
after-school care for two specialized populations: preschool children starting at age 3 and
students with disabilities requiring specialized supports, either as part of daily after-school
programming for elementary-age children or separately. While the initial focus will be on
elementary school aged students, providers who serve secondary school aged students are
also welcomed to apply as we learn more about the world of afterschool opportunities for older
students.
BPS is releasing this Request for Information (RFI) for information-gathering only. No contract
will be awarded as a result.

Social Awareness & Relationships
Social awareness and relationships involves empathizing with and taking the perspective of others; understanding social and ethical norms for behavior; and cultivating positive, supportive connections with friends, classmates, and adults.
Research shows that social awareness and relationships are important for academic achievement and engagement in the classroom at all age levels. Young people with strong social awareness and relationship skills will show respect and consideration for their peers, form friendships with peers, share interests and ideas with adults, and demonstrate disagreement or ask questions in a respectful manner.
