Emotional/Behavioral Management: Behind-the-Scenes & Policy Deep Dive
November 7, 2024 @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm
The success of your camp’s emotional/behavioral management program doesn’t start at staff training – it starts in the fall, when you review and re-evaluate your policies, procedures, and paperwork. We will be joined by two great speakers – Emily Golinsky, Bright Moose Training and Francesca Korbas, Francesca Korbas Esq. Consulting. Emily will address things such as questions you should be asking as part of your camper application/enrollment process, website/marketing messaging that encourages applications from campers who meet your intended population, and the fine print that explains your expectations and policies to parents/guardians. In the afternoon, Francesca will share information and recommendations for camps related to The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (the precursor of ADA), and more that will help you better understand what your camp can (and maybe can’t) do. She will also provide guidance on how to successfully connect school year supports and IEP planning to camp inclusivity planning. You’ll leave feeling energized and ready to edit your emotional/behavioral fine-print (and not-so-fine-print) in preparation for the Summer of 2025!

Social Awareness & Relationships
Social awareness and relationships involves empathizing with and taking the perspective of others; understanding social and ethical norms for behavior; and cultivating positive, supportive connections with friends, classmates, and adults.
Research shows that social awareness and relationships are important for academic achievement and engagement in the classroom at all age levels. Young people with strong social awareness and relationship skills will show respect and consideration for their peers, form friendships with peers, share interests and ideas with adults, and demonstrate disagreement or ask questions in a respectful manner.
