National Summer Learning Day 2012
June 21 is National Summer Learning Day! The National Summer Learning Association’s new infographic below captures the importance of summer learning, especially for low-income students.
To learn more about the facts behind Summer Learning Loss, we urge you to read RAND Corporation’s 2011 report, “Making Summer Count.” Not only do the researchers discuss the reasons for summer learning loss, but they provide recommendations for school districts, policymakers, and funders.
Boston Summer Learning Project 2012
National Summer Learning Day also marks the start of the Boston Summer Learning Project, now in its third year, with the support of the Boston Opportunity Agenda, Wallace Foundation, and others. The Project will serve 1,600 high-need students, and includes 40 Boston Public Schools and 17 community partners. Check out the Summer Learning Project page to see the complete list of the 2012 schools and partners.
Take a look at our progress since the Summer Learning Project’s inception in 2010. The city of Boston has made great system-wide strides since 2010, and it could not be accomplished without drawing on the collective strengths of ALL of our partners.
