MA State Senate Adopts Summer Learning Amendment

Thanks to the advocacy of our partners, the Senate this week adopted the Summer Learning Amendment (EDU 183) at $500,000. The full text can be viewed below.

This amendment would help students across the Commonwealth boost academics and gain college and career readiness skills during the summer months. The investment would yield another $1 million in matching funds from local communities and school districts eager to embrace this evidence-based approach and make our cities, including our historic and cultural institutions, a vibrant extension of the classroom.

This accomplishment would not have been possible without the leadership of Senator Brendan Crighton and the following co-sponsors: Senator Michael Moore, Senator Will Brownsberger, Senator Barbara L’Italien, and Senator Patrick O’Connor. Please reach out to them to thank them for their support, and encourage your Representatives to support this issue as well.

The Senate proposal now heads to Conference Committee, where representatives from the House and Senate will reconcile the differences between their respective budgets, before reporting a final compromise bill to the floor for a vote.
