RFP: Boston Coaching For Completion Initiative

Dear colleagues,

We are delighted to share with you an exciting new grant opportunity from one of our partners.

Yesterday, the Boston Foundation released a Request for Proposals for the Boston Coaching for Completion (BosC4C) initiative; you can find that RFP at: www.tbf.org/sbrfp. BOSC4C, a program of Success Boston, is funded through the federal Social Innovation Fund (SIF), a key White House initiative and program of the Corporation for National and Community Service. Success Boston is Boston’s citywide college completion partnership that seeks to double the college completion rate for students.

BosC4C will build on and expand Success Boston’s efforts to raise post-secondary completion rates of Boston Public Schools (BPS) graduates by scaling up one of Success Boston’s early successes – transition coaching. The purpose of this RFP is to seek out innovative, high-performing nonprofits to provide transition coaching for cohorts of students from Boston’s high schools, while participating in a rigorous evaluation and active learning community. With support from SIF, the Foundation will make between 10-15 grants to expand the Success Boston Transition Coaching model, which currently serves approximately 300 Boston high school graduates, to reach 1,000 students annually.

Transition Coaching pairs a nonprofit coach with a high school student, typically beginning in the senior year of high school, continuing through the second year of college. The coach helps students navigate the challenges that inevitably arise during college. Preliminary analysis of this intervention shows that participating students re-enroll and graduate at significantly higher rates than their non-coached peers.

In support of this RFP, the Boston Foundation will also hold three bidders’ conferences (75 Arlington Street, 10th floor, Boston, MA 02116) on the following dates: October 29, from 3:00-5:00; November 7, from 1:00-3:00; and November 10, from 3:00-5:00.

Boston After School & Beyond is proud to support this effort to improve students’ academic preparation and transition into college. Please feel free to get in touch if you have any questions or need any further information.
