At this program students will have the chance to explore the outdoors alongside strong adult mentors. We focus on consistency in these mentorships by having a leader team dedicated to providing excellent outdoor education programming in addition to EY volunteers and Outdoor Mentors who show up for the same school group week after week and month after month. Our programming is different in that we take kids outdoors every week to explore their communities and local green spaces. Our approach involves hosting weekly after-school enrichment sessions, which builds up to a larger outing at the end of each month. For instance, at the beginning of this school year, our focus will be on building trust within the group. To achieve this, we spend several weeks teaching rock climbing skills, followed by an exciting outdoor rock climbing trip for each school group. We then follow this approach throughout the school year with different activities. By focusing on under-resourced schools and communities, we are helping making outdoor spaces more diverse by creating welcoming spaces in the outdoors for the next generation of recreators and environmental stewards. Kids have a variety of experiences with us to learn more about and discover what sparks their passion within the outdoors, whether that be fishing, skateboarding, hiking, or something new.
