[VIDEO] BNN News Highlights Links Between Summer Learning and Student Success

Chris Smith, Executive Director of BASB, and Tisha Nguyen, Vice President of Expanded Learning for Thompson Island Outward Bound Education Center, joined Chris Lovett on BNN News this week to discuss the impact of recent national findings on summer learning from a report entitled Ready for Fall?.

The near-term results from this multi-year, national study conducted by the Wallace Foundation and RAND suggest that rigorous summer learning programs can help narrow the achievement gap in large, urban school districts.  Smith and Nguyen emphasize that rigorous summer programs that marry academic instruction and enrichment not only give students a meaningful head-start for the new school year, but also help youth develop the vital life-long skills that are linked to college and career success.
